Will hurricane Bill affect my flight from Hartford to DC to Copenhagen?
I am flying on Sunday evening from Hartford to Washington DC, then on to Copenhagen Denmark. I see the path of hurricane Bill may affect the flight. This is new for me-is there any chance my flight will be delayed or canceled???

Anything is possible. Impossible to predict accurately four days away.

Bill will not have any impact on Copenhagen, and there is only a very slight chance it will have any impact on Harford, and less chance for DC. I base this on 5-day scientific probabilities for hurricane Bill here: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/083316.shtml?tswind120#contents At 72 hours (Sunday) the chart indicates a 5-10 percent chance of 39mph winds in Hartford caused by Bill. That appears to be the maximum risk along your flight path, and the risk is very, very low. Your flight would probably go as planned even with 39mph winds at Hartford. It is more likely your DC-Copenhagen pilots will take an alternate route across the Atlantic, i.e., fly around the hurricane. But you're good to go. Pack your bags.
3 :
It might become a problem, Bill is heading in the direction of DC. As it is still 3 days from now, you might keep an eye on this map every now and then and see if the direction changes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:2009_Atlantic_hurricane_season_summary_map.png (p.s the red one is Bill)

As the other answers say, Bill is still a long way off and exactly what path it will take is unknown. Note that airports do NOT wait until the last moment to close. The airport authorities decide when to close (not the airlines). You need to keep watching the news and watch the airlines' website(s). If Bill begins to threaten the east coast you also need to call the airline to ask about changes (don't depend on the website to be updated more than once a day). If Bill does disrupt flights the airlines will rebook you on another flight - either earlier or later, or maybe via a different route (if that works). However, they won't change flights for free until the airlines' management OKs doing so. Be flexible and consider leaving early if your tickets/fare will allow. For example, if Bill threatens the Boston-Washington corridor then both of your airports may be affected. Remember there are flights to Copenhagen from other US cities, including Chicago. If Washington is affected you may still be able to get from Hartford to somewhere else with flights to Copenhagen.
5 :
Yes, your flight will be delayed. Bill will be near Boston Sunday as a CAT 1-2 Hurricane. Take an early morning flight to DC or get out before Sunday. There is a good chance Hartford could get a lot of flooding, and wind damage from this storm.

its possible, look at the raidar

Arlington Cemetery, The Viet Nam Wall Memorial, Iwo Jima...Drive around that and it looks like they are raising the American flag...very touching!

Pick one of the Smithsonian museums on the Mall or the National Gallery of Art. Depending on your interests one of them will easily fill out your day and they all have easy metro access. I'm assuming you're flying through Reagan National and not Dulles. If you're going through Dulles there's a new Air and Space Museum annex out there. You'll never get into town and back from Dulles.
3 :
Smithsonian Air and Space Museum-the most popular museum in DC. Full of replicas of aircrafts and spaceships National Museum of Natural History Union Station-full of many shops, restaurants, and a movie theater (you won't have enough time for a movie) This is about all you'll see in DC but you'll still have fun
4 :
Depends on which airport you're flying in and out of. If its reagan then I'd say to definitely get down to the mall (the smithsonian metro stop) and just walk around there for awhile. You'll see monuments and memorials, etc. But if you're flying from BWI or dulles, I'm not sure you'll have enough time with traffic and other tourist traps, etc. Enjoy!
5 :
If you are going through Reagan, hop on the metro (blue line towards Largo) and get off at the Smithsonian stop. It will put you on the National Mall - close to the Smithsonian museums and the monuments. I prefer the monuments over the museums and you can easily spend a couple of hours walking around to all of the monuments and the Capital building on the mall.

wow.. 5 hours is definitely not a lot of time to see such a great place.. and if your at the washington reagan airport your in DC but way on the other side... i wouldnt suggest leaving the airport with so little time.. however if you must.. i would go and see the whitehouse.. and take pictures and stuff its pretty cool.. there are tons of museums but you really need a lot of time to look at everything.. looking at one will take about 2/3 hours min. and your gonna need 30/45 mins to travel from the airport to the heart of DC.. which is where all the stuff is.

Where can I find the cheapest flight from Europe to Washington dc or richmond?? :( I cant get home?
am in rome and need to go home, all the flights seem to be very expensive. Im scared because I dont see how i am going to make it back.....Even if i have to take a train somwhereelse in europe or plane to england and then fly home i will do it with 5 stops, if i have to. Does anyone know where i can get home on august 17 or 18 (mon or tues) for under 500$ :( you can actually get flights around europe for 20 quid, ive been doing it all summer. My flight to europe a few months ago was 300$...So I expected the same returning, exspecially since i am making furthur in advance....So wasnt so "dumb", but very unexpected costs... wow, thank you all so much for the info, very helpful!....i hope i find something!

You are very unlikely to be able to get back to the US on either of those dates for $500. And it will not help you to travel around Europe, which will cost significant amounts of money itself.
2 :
wow, that wasn't too wise to go to europe and not buy a return tix!! there is no way to get one for UNDER $500!!! that was like 5-6 yrs ago that you could get tix this cheap!!!

I found a place that would get you to Newark for $511. Maybe you could take a bus or train from there to Richmond. http://www.farecompare.com/airfare/results-flights-marketsearch.html?cabin=Coach&altAirports=false&flexDates=false&onlyNonStops=false&type=results-flights-market&departure=ROM&destination=NYC&t=o&s=d&saveMySearch=false&departdate=20090818&returndate=&p=1 Those to DC are in the $1300 area. Looks like it's cheaper to buy a roundtrip ticket, for some reason: http://www.farecompare.com/airfare/results-flights-marketsearch.html?cabin=Coach&altAirports=false&flexDates=false&onlyNonStops=false&type=results-flights-market&departure=ROM&destination=RIC&t=r&s=d&saveMySearch=false&departdate=20090815&returndate=20090901&p=1

The least expensive flights that I found for you from Europe to the USA is on Iceland Air on Aug 19, 21 from Paris to New York (JFK) for $591. Regards, Dan

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

If you go to one of the travel websites and input your info, you'll get a list of flights. I'd guess it's about three hours, depending on which airport in DC you use.
2 :
Depends on the airlines you fly with. If you fly with no stop (US Airways or Continental Airlines), the flight will take about 3 hours. If you fly with AirTran Airways (which will stop at Atlanta, GA), the trip duration will be less than 5 hours.
