Im visiting Washington and the east coast this summer, from England! Tips of what to do/where to go please

Im visiting Washington and the east coast this summer, from England! Tips of what to do/where to go please!?
Basically, I've never been to the US before, but I have just had the opportunity to go to the US for a month. We will be going to New York for a couple of days, then going down to Washington DC for a week to visit my friends family. We will be spending time doing stuff in DC, then we will go down to Virginia Beach, later moving to Southern California. Basically, whats the cheapest way to get from New York to Washington DC? Train, or domestic flight? What should we look to do in these places we are to visit? Any recommendations on what to go and do or see? Will Virginia beach and So Cal be full of girls through July? Where do people recommend drinking for a couple of 23 year old British guys? We know to go visit the main tourist attractions breifly while we are there, but we want to have fun too. Go places to meet people, places to drink, places to spend the day. If there is anything special in these areas or nearby? Also, living in a country which doesnt allow guns, I'm looking for a good gun range which does shooting experiences near any of these locations, typically firing a range of rifles and handguns for fun, as I never have and really enjoy marksmanship using air powered rifles back at home and really want to try the real deal.

When in DC, use the Metro trains to get around. They are cheap, clean, safe and will get you to or near all the tourist attractions.

Will the flight be delayed or cancelled

Will the flight be delayed or cancelled?
I am flying from Boston to Washington DC Monday at 6:00pm. Washington DC is already getting heavy snow, and it is coming soon in Boston, do you think the flight will be canceled?

Cat, There is no way to tell at this point. By Monday evening the storm should be out of the way, and DC airports ought to be getting back to normal. Logan airport is certainly used to dealing with large quantities of snow. Think positive thoughts.

No one knows, it could stop and be over with. if its not it'll most likely be cancelled or re-booked. american airports aren't used to alot of snow.

I hope not but mine was canceled today departing from newark to san juan. The next three days were completely booked so they overbooked me in a flight anyways. My boyfriend had to take one flight a day before me. They couldn't book us together:(

When I perfect my time machine, I'll let you know for sure, but you may find out before then. Most airlines aren't projecting the same effect on Monday as they have experienced on Saturday. That said, delays and cancellations happen without snow, so you should just keep an eye out and try to rebook as soon as your flight is affected.

Wish we could trade spots, I'm stuck in Washington because of the storm. it is sunny now and flights are expected to start up again at 4pm and the weather for the 21st looks good as well!

It varies, some stop in LA others stop in phoenix, but it should be on your ticket and itinerary. If you know the flight number or time try going to the airlines website to look it up.

follow the link it will explain

You can have a non stop flight to the mainland. We have done one from Honolulu to Atlanta. 13 hour flights or longer are possible. My mother & sister flew from Vancouver, BC straight to Sydney, Australia. Friends flew from LAX to Bangkok, Thailand. Stops aren't always necessary.

The vast majority of hotels (any nice hotel) will provide you with luggage storage, even if you are checking out. I have been in your situation many times and have never had a problem going back right before my flight and retrieving my luggage.
