Newark Airport to Washington DC

Newark Airport to Washington DC?
Hi, A little background. I am flying to New York on a business trip but will like to fly in a few days earlier and make a trip to Washington DC for a short holiday. I wanted to take a train from Newark to DC and searched the Amtrak schedule. I found many suitable trains on the website and is tempted to make the relevant train reservations. However, I am concerned that my flight to Newark will be delayed and I might miss my train. Is it necessary to buy Amtrak train tickets in advance? I am arriving on a weekday(Wednesday) at approx 5pm ET. I am tempted to (if possible) buy the tickets at the station. But I am concerned that I might end up paying a lot more or be unable to get a seat. Is this likely? The Amtrak website state that a coach class ticket will cost $49 from Newark to DC.

I don't really think you have to because if it is only you traveling your most likely going to get a seat on the train. Or if you want to buy a ticket in advance, get one for like an hour or two later than your plane is supposed to land just to be safe. And if your plane is on schedule, just hang out in the airport or something until your ready to hop on the train. Safe travels.

Amtrak is pretty good about exchanging tickets if you're late for a train or arrive early and want to shift to an earlier train. What I would do: if I was going to arrive at 12:50pm, I would reserve a seat on a 2:00pm train. If I arrived at the Newark station in time for an earlier train, I would go to the ticket counter and ask to exchange it for that train. If there's an available seat, they will do such an exchange, usually at no cost.

As a former Amtrak employee I can tell you, you will be able to purchase your tickets at the station. The station ticket office is open from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. If you arrive after 7 P.M. I believe there is a machine there where you can purchase tickets if you have a credit card. Whether you purchase your tickets in advance or at the station, the price remains the same.

PLANE EXPERIENCE TRAVELERS: What can I expect on a 5 hour flight

PLANE EXPERIENCE TRAVELERS: What can I expect on a 5 hour flight?
Thursday Aug 20: Washington Dc for a day. Friday Aug 21: Washington Airport to Bahamas. -Connecting flights Saturday Aug 22: In bahamas Sunday Aug 23: In bahamas Monday Mug 24: In bahamas morning, head to airport to go back to washington -Connecting Flights Pick up truck from parking lot area and head back to Maryland. What can I expect to happen on my 5 hour flight? I only had the long international flight where i had personal tvs, and I really doubt that they would put them in a 5 hour flight. Because the flight i had with the personal tvs, was going to england which is like a 12 hour flight. Actuallly not BWI, which is my normal airport to flew through, but since i'm staying a day in washington dc, i'm just going to park at washington regan airport.

it sucks... bring a book or a gameboy or something because its to short for the in flight movie (maybe you will get lucky) but just beverages and you sitting is what you can expect. or you will have to pay for your personal tv...
2 :
JetBlue has personal televisions, and some other airlines might show movies or sitcoms. Just ask your airline. These days, they probably won't offer free meals, or they might just offer a snack. Pick something up in the airport after you get through security. Buy water there too. Again, ask the airline. Other than that, bring a book/magazine, hand-held and your iPod. Try and sleep on the plane, and keep hydrated. Make sure you pack a light sweater in case they run out of blankets. If you tend to get motion sickness, a dramamine always works, but it will tend to make you drowsy. Enjoy your trip!

I ALWAYS pack food. If it will be through a meal time I get take out food to bring. I also have a small case with granola bars and such that I carry every flight, just in case. And I never get onto a plane without a full bottle of water and another drink, a book to read, a notebook and pen/pencil, my cell phone (which plays several games) and charger, my medications and on long flights some other things to keep me occupied. The airline is supposed to get you where you are going. You have to entertain yourself and these days assume you might need food and water also.

You top half was sort of confusing, you should've listed times not dates. Anyway, I'm used to flying back and forth from boston to seattle, 6-7hr flights. It should be pretty good, five hours isn't that bad. Depending on the plain you have you'll either have a tv with a choice of movies for you to pick out and watch or tvs that play movies that you don't get to choose. Either way, there will be a tv and movies. You could bring your MP3 player, that will make the flight go a lot faster. I always fly with crayons and a coloring book (even though I'm 20 and it probably looks silly). I put on my ipod and color away. Makes the time fly by. Good Luck! I heard the Bahamas are lovely right now and all inclusive resorts and super cheap also. Theres a 5 star all inclusive resort going for 100 euros a night!

you will expect like pretzels and drinks. when you are landing your ears will pop so bring ear plugs. bring like an ipod or a game things like psp

You are flying on BWI right? I fly a lot to Puerto Rico-and I live in DC/Maryland as well. It's about a 4 hour flight. I bring a book-there is no food, no movie-not all airlines have a movie. Only drinks and pretzels or cookies, no meals. Bring a book or a laptop to play movies or something.

What kind of ammentites should be provided on a delta airlines flight?
I am traveling from spokane wa to washington dc on delta tommorow, and am going to be in coach, with one stop in minneapolis and landing at reagen international. What kind of entertainment should be expected, and what kind of products are there available? Any answers are extremely appreciated.

It will be difficult to say as Delta merged with NWA and planes from both fleets have been consolidated.. In-flight entertainment will range from none to personal TV's to overheads. As for products, you'll get a drink and some bagged snack.
2 :
Hello. I think these will both be Airbus industry planes(equipment code A319). If I am not mistaken you take the 1.30pm departure out of Spokane and connect with the 6.55pm departure out of Minneapolis. These are airplanes that were used by Northwest Airlines before they merged. Unfortunately, there are no TVs on these planes. They offer snack for purchase on these flights. You can find this info on, http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Delta_Airlines/Delta_Airlines_Airbus_A319.php Have a safe flight.

so.. washington dc with my class or africa for a missionary trip with my gma

so.. washington dc with my class or africa for a missionary trip with my gma?
at our school, the upcoming senior class always goes to washington dc in the june before senior year. we leave anywhere from the 2nd 2 4th week.. and my gma told me that shes going to africa in june of 2010 (also same time i might be goin 2 dc). and i would ask my school counselor if she has the trip planned yet, to see if maybe i can go to africa and then go 2 dc or vice versa, but my guess is that she doesnt have it planned yet. either way, i have 2 pay for the trip entirely by myself! so do i go 2 africa or do i go to dc with my class? reasons y i wanna go 2 dc: its my class, and i wanna spend as much time with my class b4 we all go off 2 college. its dc, itd be amazing! reasons y i dont wanna go 2 dc: i dont get along with EVERYBODY in my class, and i dont want any drama! reasons y i wanna go 2 africa: DUH!, its africa! thatd be an amazing oppurtunity! reasons y i dont wanna go: ive never flown before, and all the way 2 africa, thats a super long flight, and over seas! my gmas goin with her church, and i dont like her church at all! and yes ive tried it many times! this grandma and i get along, but i cant spend all that much time with her before i go insane! lol.. and of course, and not number one, but probly close 2 number one for me is that i wont have my phone! i mentioned that id go insane with my gma, well id go especially without my phone. -and i dont mean to sound like one of those rich spoiled brats that only cares about their phone, but its literally my lifeline-

international flights arent bad at all. so dont let that stop you. i've flown from the us to various parts of europe several times. they play a couple of movies, give you head phones so you can listen to music, and feed you. plus when are you going to get the chance to go to africa again???? you can go to d.c. anytime! i would definitely choose africa if i were you. it's a once in a lifetime experience.
2 :
Ultimately, the decision is yours, but here's my take on the situation. Africa is clearly more of a "once in a lifetime" opportunity, whereas, Washington D.C. is probably a more realistic trip you could make in the future. It would probably be good for any of us to take a trip to Africa, especially as a missionary because we could all use a lesson in the harsh reality of the rest of the world. I've never been to D.C., but I do know all of the amazing sights there are to see there, so I couldn't blame you for going, but perhaps Africa is the kind of trip you shouldn't pass on. Getting a glimpse of a different culture can never hurt you in the long run.
3 :
Go to Africa while you have the opportunity. DC is easier to get around to later on. Plus you'd enjoy it more when you've actually got the time and the money to see everything DC has to offer.

I would absolutely go to Africa and maybe work in some time where you could either spend time with your grandmother alone (away from the church) or even some time out on your own. Africa is AFRICA, I know it sounds silly but it really is (ugh cliche) a once in a lifetime opportunity. Washington DC could be fun, and I know travel is always a little more entertaining with friends. But really, DC is a whole lotta museums and monuments. Africa is the Safari! The Desert! Those animals in the zoo? They actually live there! Out in the open! (er...don't feed them) It's pure crazyness. What you could do, so that you don't miss out on seeing all your friends on last time, is maybe invite them all over for a party! Everyone loves parties! Or maybe you and some of your closer friends could go on a little road trip to somewhere kind of local, road trips are always great for fun times and memories, and usually pretty cool budget wise. It would be kind of rough without your phone, but I've done that when I did international travel and it wasn't really so awful. Mind you I wasn't alone with my grandma, and I don't know how much time you spend texting to your friends, but it's not so bad. Bring a journal to write down every experience you have (even if you go to DC, travel journals are always fun to look back on) And send postcards as a 'tee-hee, I'm using snail mail. Maybe even put a few 'omg its 2 kool here' just to be a little dork. Maybe it won't be even close to texting, but I promise it'll be fun! Also, ask your grandma about all the crazy stuff she's done in her life, get her to think of you less like a granddaughter and more like a friend it might go a little easier. Seriously, grandmas have crazy ass stories. Flights aren't that bad at all, I had something like a 16 hour flight and forgot to sleep because I was just watching all the free movies. It's just like a long road trip with tv! And peanuts :) If you don't have an awesome time you can come back and tell me 'I told you so!' Feel better? :D Either one you choose is going to be lots of fun though, so don't fret too much!
